Our Lady of the Cenacle

The house: to find or to build

When establishing itself in a new city or country, the Cenacle looks for a house with a dual purpose: to house the community and to host retreats. Unless they are fortunate enough to find a benefactor who offers a suitable building from the very beginning, the founders usually have to rent a temporary location. Purchasing, or then possibly building, are only considered at a later stage.

From the ideal house to its realization

The Directory of the Congregation specifies which criteria to follow when choosing a house. Once on site, the sisters adapt the layout.

Example of the construction of the Generalate house in Monte Mario

At the invitation of Pope Pius XI, the Congregation decided to transfer its motherhouse to Rome. This was an opportunity to launch a new construction on land on the outskirts of the city, in a rapidly growing neighborhood.
