Foundations

Born in a small mountain village in France, the Congregation is now present on all five continents: how did it respond to the calls it received and embark on international adventure?

A missionary faith

The Congregation of Our Lady of the Cenacle is not a missionary congregation: its vocation is not to send missionaries to the four corners of the earth to evangelize populations far from God. However, like every member of the Church, it is called to share and nurture the treasure of faith. In this sense it is animated by a missionary spirit, which has unfolded and continues to unfold through its own unique spirituality.

In the breath of the Spirit

In the words of one of its founders, the congregation seeks to “make Jesus known and loved,” offering “to each soul what is appropriate according to its time, needs, and capacity of spirit,” through retreats, spiritual direction, and catechesis. The mission is discreet and long-term, because it touches the inner life, yet it works profoundly. This constant adaptation to the yearnings of their fellow people is a characteristic of the “missionary spirit” as lived by the Cenacle Sisters, always ready to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
