Our Lady of the Cenacle

Recognition as founders and saints

Today, the Congregation recognises the joint work of Father Terme and Mother Thérèse as its origins. But the road to arrive there was a long one.

Belated recognition

The premature death of Father Terme, the vicissitudes of the Congregation’s early history, and Mother Thérèse’s voluntary withdrawal explain the belated recognition of their roles as founders.

Spontaneous devotion

Filial piety arose immediately after the founders’ deaths. The Sisters treasured their memories, transforming affection into devotion.

A desire to have two saints recognised

From the day after Mother Thérèse’s death, the causes of the two founders were closely linked in the prayer of the Congregation.

A foundress on the altars

Only Mother Thérèse’s cause was successful. She was canonised in 1970.

Models of holiness

For each of the founders, popular or official devotion focuses on a particular aspect of their personality.
